We are pleased to be able to introduce some new tutors this year – and welcome back some familiar faces whose workshops are always well received. We have tried where possible to keep the cost of a day course to £25.00 but because of the high price of fuel, we have had to increase some to cover the travelling expenses of the tutors. Yet again this year we will be asking for the full fee to be payable on booking – if you have to cancel we will only refund the fee if a replacement is found for your place – or depending on the circumstances a discretionary refund may be given.

All workshops start from 9.30 a.m. with tea and coffee for a PROMPT 10 a.m. start until 4 p.m.

The course costs vary to include higher tutor fees and travelling expenses.  This year we require the workshop to be paid IN FULL at time of booking to secure your place, which will be in high demand.

Should you need to cancel we will require at least two weeks notice.

Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided throughout the day with cake for afternoon tea.  Sandwiches or salad boxes can be ordered on the day.  A list of ‘ingredients' will be sent out 2 weeks before the workshop.

Try it with Texture- A Mixed Media Play Day - Vinnie Cable

Make your own piece of bespoke ‘fabric' using unusual materials such as plastic, string, foil, and even sweet wrappers. The ‘fabric' will be made by layering various materials, stitching them, treating the layers with heat, paint, etc and embellishing further to achieve a beautifully textured finish. The piece can later be made into a book cover, box, bag or a million other things.

Each year we could fill the Christmas workshop twice so this year we are doing two – hence the repeat of Oct 4 workshop

Creative Book Covers – Carol Corke

Carol held this workshop for us last year – these extremely professional looking book covers make even a cheap diary or address book look like a very expensive gift – the technique can be applied to practically any size hard back book or folder

Locker Hooking Table Mats – Linda Moor

This is a great way to use up left-over fabric to make original coasters, place mats, heat mats for teapots and casseroles, cushions, bags, Christmas stockings or anything else you can imagine. The technique is quick and easy to learn. You use a locker hook, canvas, twine and fabric and the results are impressive. Mats can be washed in the machine, as the fabric is ‘locked' in place with the twine. They are tough and long lasting. You can make up your own designs or patterns or try some traditional patchwork designs. Come and have a go and see for yourself – you might get hooked!!

Beaded Christmas Present – Esta Clark

This beaded bracelet would make an ideal Christmas present or could be the finishing touch to an outfit for a Christmas 'do'. Open to all ability levels – beginners are most welcome .

Stitched Herbaceous Borders – Jan Tillett

Create an herbaceous border that needs no pruning, watering or weeding! Use free machine embroidery to create a stitched picture of a flower border. Suitable for beginners.

Traditional Log Cabin – made easy – Anne Muxworthy

Everyone loves a Log Cabin quilt – Anne will show you how to accurately chain piece this classic block - you will be amazed how many blocks you will be able to make in a day. This would be a ideal opportunity to use that Jelly Roll you've been saving!

Sepia Garden – Jennifer Trollope

For all those Magpies who have saved old lace and buttons from their Grandmothers collections. This will be the ideal opportunity to display some of your treasures in this Heirloom project.

Boxes of Delight – Jan Tillett

Create a box for precious things using free machine embroidery. Construction techniques will be taught plus how to embellish the box with cords and tassels made on the sewing machine.

Farm and Cottage Wallhanging – Marlene Chaffey

If you love landscapes, you will enjoy making this small 17” x 13” design. Marlene will introduce you to various construction methods including raw edge, turned edge, reverse and needle turn appliqué together with very simple embroidery .This is a hand appliqué class suitable for someone with basic appliqué skills.

Mariner's Compass Quilt – Marlene Chaffey

This traditional block, with all its long skinny points looks very difficult to stitch but it is a breeze with foundation piecing. You will learn how to draft the block using just a compass, ruler and pencil, prepare your foundation papers and discuss fabric choices. You will also learn how to do foundation piecing before moving on to construct your block.

Spring Flowers – Carol Corke

Carol will be using one of her original designs for this stained glass project.

Revelation Burning – Jennifer Trollope

Its amazing the fun you can have with fabric and a soldering iron!  Using a Kona Bay Kimono panel as a base – see how to transform a piece of cotton fabric into something really special.

Celebration Cards – Carol Corke

Have you ever realised at the last minute that you need a special card – Carol will show you how to make your own cards using her quick technique using odds and ends of fabric and thread – surprise your friends and family with one of these lovely hand made cards.

Strip and Flip Bag - Marlene Chaffey

Back by popular demand – this lovely bag features a panel of Strip and Flip patchwork. Using strips of fabric, you will learn how to construct the panel and then embellish with embroidery and beading. This is a machine stitching course and suitable for all skill levels.

Freely Cut Curved Piecing – Dot Carter

This is a workshop based on Alicia Merretts technique of joining together freely cut curves without pins or tacking! Truly liberating. You should be able to complete a small abstract wallhanging on the day. The added dimension of inserting sheer fabrics along with solid ones will give the opportunity to use the space behind the layers to add extra detail and embellishments to the completed piece.

Twisted Tiffany Box – Jennifer Trollope

Using the ‘Revelation Burning' technique this box is a particularly useful gift in its own right, even without contents. The finish has a leaded appearance hence the ‘Tiffany' name.
